A shared plan to improve the lives of people living in Burnie.
Burnie Works has been working alongside the Burnie community to understand what people believe needs to change to improve wellbeing, opportunity, and quality of life across our region. Over the past year, we have listened carefully to the experiences, ideas, and priorities of people who live, work, and deliver services in Burnie.
This work was shaped by extensive community listening activities conducted in early 2025, including coffee van conversations, engagements at community events, and an online survey. In total, more than 269 community members shared over 1,000 responses/comments on their perspectives, providing a strong evidence base grounded in lived experience.
The result is the Burnie Community Change Agenda 2025–2030, a completed, place-based document that captures what our community told us matters most and outlines the changes needed to strengthen wellbeing, improve access to support, and create better long-term outcomes for people in Burnie.
To mark the release of the Burnie Community Change Agenda and support its translation into action, Burnie Works, in partnership with Connected Beginnings, hosted the Burnie Community Change Agenda Symposium on 16–17 February. This two-day event brought together service providers, funders, community leaders, and lived-experience voices to build shared understanding, strengthen collaboration, and explore what the Change Agenda means in practice.
This was not a traditional conference. The symposium was a listening, learning, and co-design experience focused on connection, collaboration, and change, supporting a shared commitment to shaping the future of services and investment in Burnie.
The Burnie Change Agenda is part of a continuing cycle of work that involves gathering input, collective sensemaking, testing and refining ideas, evaluating (which generates new input), and further sensemaking, repeated over time with and community input incorporated at multiple points, not solely through the original survey window.
