WHEN WE BUILD CONNECTIONS, BURNIE WORKS.
Burnie’s Social Recovery is a process of sharing experiences of our community’s resilience during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Burnie was flung into uncertainty when it was nationally recognised as a hotspot in early 2020 with an outbreak at the NW Regional Hospital. It was quickly cleared up but not without causing understandable stress and uncertainty for many locals, the pandemic still impacting our way of living well into 2021.
Throughout the coming months we will be highlighting the positive stories and strategies our families and friends have demonstrated, sharing ideas about how we can cope in times of challenge, now and always. There is also a desire to support people experiencing mental health issues for the first time, to de-stigmatise asking for help and clarifying what our local resources are – Where to go? When to seek support? How to be there for others? We will be building our community’s capacity to be mental health responders. We will also find ways to connect in small community settings and share some of the wonderful resources on our doorstep.
Workers will have the opportunity to Recharge with free lunch once a month in the CBD and families can enjoy some free events in our natural spaces in the suburbs. Keep in touch with our events and programs on social media.
