Mental Health – Understanding the System

Mental Health – Understanding the System

Burnie Works are hosting a process for community members to identify how the mental health system can be more effective and supportive of their needs.

We are inviting parents/caregivers in Burnie, Ulverstone and Devonport that have navigated, or are navigating, the mental health system with their young person (12-25 year olds) to assist us with this project.

We want to learn how the mental health system works for young people so that we can understand where the system is difficult to navigate.

Burnie Works Community Knowledge Collectors will conduct interviews with parents/caregivers of young people seeking mental health support.

This will provide us with:
• a shared understanding of the challenges
• common and different challenges across the communities
• a shared tool to help guide systems-thinking in decision making

The current system supports short term community funding, with limited opportunity for long term approaches.

It is hoped that this work will help identify both long term and short term opportunities.

We need 6 families from Burnie to begin chats in October/November (Ulverstone and Devonport will be interviewed early in 2024).
