Burnie Works, in partnership with Burnie City Council, have made some changes to youth council membership. These changes will take place over a two-year period and will see all Youth Councillors participating in Youth Council for two years by 2025.
After being introduced to a new decision-making tool at the last meeting it was great to see how fast the councillors have picked up this way of working.
We witnessed some fantastic decision making at last week’s Youth Council Meeting after introducing the concept of critical friends, that is to be supportive but not afraid to ask the tricky questions using critical thinking in decision making.
Burnie Works are putting out the call for 1000 young people aged 15-19 who live in Pataway/Burnie to have their say in Mission Australia’s 22nd annual Youth Survey.
Youth Councillors went through the election process where students who wished to nominate for a Council position delivered their speech. We heard inspiring speeches from the heart. Youth Councillors then voted. Congratulations to the office bearers for 2023.
