Books in Homes

Books in Homes provides books of choice to families and children. The program aims to inspire young people to develop a love of reading. It also prepares them for school and helps them develop reading skills for life.

Books in Homes is available to children who attend a Launching into Learning program at a government primary school in Burnie or at the Burnie Child and Family Learning Centre.

Children can choose three books and they will receive them in a personalised book bag.

Launching into Learning is a FREE program in Burnie. It aims to support children (aged from birth to 4 years) to get a great start!

Commencing in Term 2 of 2024, this initiative is made possible through the generous support of partners including the Emu Bay Lions Club, Rotary Club of Burnie, Elphinstone Stevens Pty Ltd, and One Agency (Burnie).

We are looking for community and business partners to help fund this initiative for the remaining terms in 2024 and beyond. If this might be you, please contact Olivia.

We know from recent data released by the Productivity Commission that the rate of children staying home from school is on the rise. We are pleased that we can run programs such as Books in Homes, as we know that supporting children’s learning in their early years helps them to successfully transition into school. In children’s education, Every Day Counts and this begins in the early years. We hope families in Burnie enjoy reading these books together.
